The prompt
Help me, as a manager, write a performance review for someone in my team: EMPLOYEE ROLE AND REVIEW TYPE. Use this: - The goals or expectations set for the period: AGREED GOALS - My evidence: results, examples, feedback from others and dates: EVIDENCE NOTES - Our rating scale or review form: RATING SCALE (optional) - Their own self-assessment, if I have it: SELF-ASSESSMENT (optional) Write: 1. A summary of 3-4 sentences I could open the review meeting with. 2. Results: a table with columns goal, what happened, evidence, rating. 3. Behaviours: two strengths and one or two areas to develop, each tied to a specific example with a date or project. 4. Where my view and their self-assessment differ, the point and a question to explore it together. 5. Support: what I provided this period, and what I will provide next. 6. Three goals for the next period, specific and measurable, agreed rather than imposed. 7. Five questions to ask in the conversation, so it's a discussion and not a verdict. Rules: - Every judgement must rest on an example in EVIDENCE NOTES. Where evidence is thin, say so instead of rating. - Describe work and behaviour, never personality, and leave out anything about health, family, age or other protected characteristics. Flag anything that could need HR, such as a formal improvement plan. - Don't let one recent event outweigh the whole period.
