Prompts are often short, and common phrases and ideas aren't protected by copyright. But a prompt can copy an article, a book passage, a paid prompt pack or someone's carefully written instructions. If something on Save My Prompts copies your work without permission, tell us and we'll act quickly.
1. Before you file#
- If someone remixed your public prompt on Save My Prompts, that's allowed by the public prompt licence, as long as “Remixed from” credit is shown.
- For other problems (spam, personal data, impersonation), use Report on the page instead. It's faster.
- A notice is a legal document. Sending one that you know is false can make you liable for damages (in the US, under 17 U.S.C. § 512(f)).
2. Sending a notice#
Email [PLACEHOLDER: Copyright email, e.g. copyright@savemyprompts.net], or use the contact form and choose “Copyright notice”. Under the US Digital Millennium Copyright Act (17 U.S.C. § 512(c)(3)), a complete notice includes:
- Your physical or electronic signature (typing your full name is fine).
- The work you say was copied. A link or a description is enough.
- The exact page or pages on Save My Prompts, for example
savemyprompts.net/p/k3x9…. One link per prompt. - Your name, postal address, phone number and email address.
- A statement that you believe in good faith the use isn't authorised by the owner, its agent or the law.
- A statement that the information in the notice is accurate and, under penalty of perjury, that you're the owner or authorised to act for the owner.
In India you can also send a notice under Section 52(1)(c) of the Copyright Act, 1957. Include the same details. Where Rule 75 of the Copyright Rules, 2013 applies, we'll keep the material unavailable for 21 days so you can get an order from a competent court, and restore it if no order arrives.
Our designated agent for DMCA notices: [PLACEHOLDER: Designated DMCA agent name and address, as registered with the US Copyright Office].
3. What we do with a notice#
- We acknowledge it, and tell you if anything is missing.
- Within 24 hours of a complete notice, we take the prompt or board out of public view.
- We tell the person who posted it, with a copy of the notice. We remove your phone number and postal address from that copy unless the law requires otherwise; your name and the details of the claim stay.
- The person can then delete it, edit it, or send a counter-notice.
4. Sending a counter-notice#
If your content was removed and you believe that was a mistake, or that you have the right to use the material, you can send a counter-notice to [PLACEHOLDER: Copyright email, e.g. copyright@savemyprompts.net]. Under 17 U.S.C. § 512(g)(3) it must include:
- Your physical or electronic signature.
- The content that was removed and where it appeared (the link you were sent is enough).
- A statement, under penalty of perjury, that you believe in good faith the content was removed by mistake or because it was misidentified.
- Your name, postal address and phone number.
- A statement that you consent to the jurisdiction of the US federal district court for your address (or, if you're outside the US, any judicial district where we may be found), and that you'll accept service of legal process from the person who sent the notice.
We send the counter-notice to the person who filed the notice. Unless they tell us within 10 business days that they've started a court case, we restore the content between 10 and 14 business days after we received the counter-notice.
5. Repeat infringers#
Each upheld copyright notice is a copyright strike on the account that posted the content. Three copyright strikes within 12 months end the account.
- A strike is removed if the notice is withdrawn, or if a counter-notice leads to the content being restored.
- Each prompt counts once, even if several notices name it.
- We may also close an account sooner when infringement is clearly deliberate, for example reposting content we already removed.
6. Staff picks and our own content#
Staff picks are written or curated by us and published by @savemyprompts. If you think one copies your work, the same process applies, and we'll reply as the author.
